Hold on. What the heck is a “Fall Line?”

Great question. Where I’m from, the Fall Line is a geologic boundary marking the prehistoric shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean. Here, slow rivers turn to rapids because of the rapid elevation change (hence the “fall” line.) Clay soil found in the north becomes sandy. Historically, this is where the first towns developed and commerce thrived. A Fall Line is a marker of change. After a Fall Line, everything is different.
